In Ireland, Game fish such as Trout and Salmon are pursued by recreational anglers. They can be freshwater or saltwater fish. Game fish can be eaten after being caught, though increasingly anglers practice catch and release to improve fish populations. Some game fish are also targeted commercially, particularly salmon.
Freshwater game fish are all Salmonids – most particularly Salmon, Trout and Char.
In Ireland these are the main game species we target in our rivers and lakes.
